The story of Pick's Lumber is built on resilience, grit, and an uncompromising commitment to laying a strong foundation. Our company was founded in 1945 by Mr. Pick, who fled Germany during the Holocaust to seek safety and a new beginning in the United States.
Settling in West Covina, California, he built Pick's Lumber from the ground up. Through hard work and an ironclad dedication to quality, his local lumber yard quickly grew into a trusted cornerstone of the post-war Southern California building boom.
In those early decades, Pick's Lumber didn't just supply wood — we helped build California's cultural identity.
When a revolutionary new burger stand needed materials for its first locations, we were there — providing all the building materials for the original In-N-Out Burger locations across the state.
Our dedication to the future of the trades led us to become the primary material supplier for the Carpenters Union Training Center (JATC), helping to train generations of master builders.

Recognizing the incredible legacy Mr. Pick had built, the company was purchased by Chuck Daugherty and Steve Thurgood. Together, they brought deep family roots in the building materials industry, expanding the company's capabilities while honoring the original standard of excellence.
Today, the torch has been passed to Steve's son, Bryce Thurgood, who owns and leads the company. Under Bryce's leadership, the Thurgood family has expanded the business far beyond traditional lumber — stepping into the realms of global entertainment, heavy corporate logistics, high-end marine/automotive fabrication, and multi-state distribution.

We are proud to announce our expansion into the Utah market, bringing the same legendary reliability that built West Coast landmarks to Utah's rapidly growing landscape.
